Delftware

Delftware is a tin-glazed earthenware, first made in the town of Delft, Holland in the early 17^th Century. Subsequently produced in other areas of Holland and also in England. Delftware was influenced by Ming dynasty porcelain, with fine decoration often drawn on the clay before firing with blue underglaze.

The 17^th Century was the greatest age of delftware with William III being responsible for many royal commissions. Delftware lost favour with the development of porcelain and in particular creamware by Josiah Wedgwood
